The Rocketboys.
Giving you the music a day early:
The Rocketboys have been visiting Little Rock for a number of years, coming up from Texas and playing their rousing indie rock. The EP Wellwisher and the album 20,000 Ghosts were both well-received, and the band built a following with their soaring sound. But by the end of 2010, the band was almost falling apart, losing three members. Fortunately, the three remaining members (singer Brandon Kinder, keyboardist Justin Wiseman and bassist Josh Campbell) forged ahead, streamlining their sound and writing new music. The result is Build Anyway, a June release, and the band is back on the road, including a stop at Stickyz. The music starts at 9 p.m. with cover $6 for the 18-and-up show. The opening acts are two local acts: electro pop outfit Canopy Climbers and progressive post-rock band Mainland Divide.
Breathe Carolina and The Ready Set are co-headlining a gig at Rev Room. It’s an all-ages show with tickets $16 in advance. No word on start time. The opening acts are Ashland High, the one-man electro pop band of Trace Cyrus (Miley Cyrus’ older brother); pop punker Matt Toka; and the rock and roar of Romance on a Rocketship. But what about these headlining acts? Breath Carolina is the Denver duo of David Schmitt and Kyle Even, an electronic rock act that released its third album Hell Is What You Make It in the summer of 2011. Even is the screamer; Schmitt is the clean singer. The Ready Set is 21-year-old drummer, singer, songwriter and keyboardist Jordan Witzigreuter. Yes, he, too, plays electronic rock and is working on a follow-up to his I’m Alive, I’m Dreaming.
The 2010 release Myself<Letting Go from North Carolina metalcore outfit To Speak of Wolves was fierce and formidable. Clean, catchy choruses mixed with raw, screamo vocals. Extremely speedy rhythms and bone-crushing breakdowns. Now, fans of the band can expect some more with the band’s upcoming May release Find Your Worth, Come Home. Preparing for the release, the band visits Downtown Music. It’s a tour stop that will also feature Oklahoma Christian hardcore band Harp and Lyre, and Texas ministry band Mouth of the South (not with Jimmy Hart) along with local support from White Hall metalcore outfit The Cause, The Cure, and southern Arkansas act The Front Line. The doors open at 7 p.m. with the music starting at 8 p.m. Tickets are $8 in advance and $10 day of show.
