Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires.

Giving you the music a day early:

Those opening piano chords in “Trouble Won’t Last Always” from Tennessee-based Glossary‘s October 2011 album Long Live All Of Us tells you quickly the 12-track record is going to be a rollicking good time filled with boogie R&B, horn-filled soul and pedal steel-laced country. And it’s all Southern-blessed rock ‘n’ roll the band delivers on record and live, including at a White Water Tavern show. Also on the bill will be dirty Alabama rock ‘n’ roll act Lee Bains III & The Glory Fires and folk punk singer/songwriter Austin Lucas. The music starts at 9 p.m.

The last few years have been kind to the First Lady of Rockabilly: Wanda Jackson. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2009 and then her home of Oklahoma City named a street after her. Jackson is a rock ‘n’ roll legend, the queen of rock who scored a Top 40 hit with “Let’s Have a Party” in 1960 and later had a string of country hits. But during the last few years her career and her influence have undergone a revival, playing U.S. and European festivals and recording a new album, The Party Ain’t Over, with Jack White that includes a rollicking cover of Bob Dylan’s “Thunder on the Mountain.” Jackson pays a visit to Rev Room. It’s an all-ages show with the music starting at 8:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 day of show.

“Lips of an Angel” is the 2006 smash that Oklahoma post-grunge band Hinder is known for by the masses. But fans of the band know that power ballad is just the tip of the band’s sound. There is also the glamlike “All American Nightmare” (the title track of the band’s 2010 album) and other hard-hitting rock anthems such as “Use Me.” Joining Hinder for a Juanita’s show presented by 100.3 The Edge will be two California rock bands: Trapt and The Dreaming. The doors open at 9 p.m. with the music starting at 10 p.m. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 day of show.

Saturday’s Music

Chris Knight.

Giving you the music a day early:

You want to hear great country songs of the 21st century, and not this pop country stuff? You get down to the Rev Room and hear Chris Knight, a singer/songwriter who grew up in Slaughters, Ky., and sings about despair, bad luck, sorrow and the rural struggle to survive. With a visit to the Rev Room, Knight will hook his emotionally devastating lyrics delivered with a ravaged, raspy voice to twang-y roots rock — following in the footsteps of early Steve Earle and Nebraska-era Bruce Springsteen. The show starts at 9 p.m. with a to-be-announced opening act. Tickets for the 18-and-up show are $12 in advance and $14 day of.

100.3 The Edge presents a night of rock with a visit from Hinder, Egypt Central and Aranda to Juanita’s. Hinder’s third album, All American Nightmare, came out last December, and the Oklahoma boys are still touring behind it, playing new tunes and their hits such as “Lips of an Angel.” Memphis post-grunge band Egypt Central has been perfecting their sound since 2002, but it’s really in the last few years that the outfit has been discovered by fans with hits such as “You Make Me Sick” and the title track from their newest album, White Rabbit. Oklahoma City’s Aranda is rock with funk and soul. Doors open at 8 p.m. with the show beginning at 9 p.m. Tickets are $22 in advance and $25 day of show.

Downtown Music will rock Capitol Street in Little Rock as The Circle of Friends Tour visits. It sounds pleasant enough, but the co-headlining band is Florida hardcore outfit Thick as Blood. Joining Thick as Blood will be co-headliners Legend, a Michigan-based metalcore act, and Ohio metal band The Plot In You, New Jersey metalcore group The Air I Breathe and New Orleans hardcore act Miracle at St. Anna. Local support will be provided by Christian hardcore band Something to Stand For and Rusty Hook, a Searcy metal quintet that plays Arkansas-stamped metal. The doors open at 6 p.m. with the music starting at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door.

Feed Turkana is an odd name for a benefit, but here’s what the benefit at the Dreamland Ballroom is doing: raising funds for victims of drought and hunger in Kenya. The event is from 7 p.m. to midnight with music from Isaac Alexander, Bear Colony, Chase Pagan and No Moon, and art available via silent auction from Dero Sanford, Dave Huff, Blair Ray, Phillip Huddleston, Vincent Griffin and others. Benefit-goers can also bid on services from local businesses such as Memento Mori Salon and 7th Street Tattoos and Piercing.

Hinder.

Giving you the music a day early:

Hinder is coming to The Village. The Oklahoma hard rockers’ third album, All American Nightmare, is set to drop in December, and the boys are on the road, playing the new tunes and the hits, including “Lips of an Angel.” And thanks to “Lips of an Angel,” the hard rock band influenced by Def Leppard and Guns N’ Roses had a debut album sell more than 3 million copies. For the band’s first Little Rock appearance since Riverfest 2009, they will be supported by Canadian post-grunge band My Darkest Days. Tickets are $22.50 in advance and $25 day of show with the doors opening at 7:30 p.m. for the 8:30 p.m. show. Also on the bill is Default, whose new album Comes and Goes was released in October. The outfit was discovered by Nickelback’s Chad Kroeger shortly after forming in Vancouver back in 1999, and since then the band has earned success on the mainstream and active rock charts.

It’s funk meets zydeco as Dikki Du & The Zydeco Krewe bring their musical party to Sticky Fingerz. Born Troy Carrier in Church Point, La., Dikki Du has been creating grooving, funky and hypnotizing zydeco music since the age of 9, creating dancing days for south Louisiana and points northward. There is no opening act so expect the music around 9:30 p.m. with a $5 early admission price for the 21-and-up show.

Fayetteville party dance rockers Boom Kinetic released their first, full-length album Part Gray/Part Bright Light with three shows across their native state earlier this month, including the Revolution Music Room. Now the band returns again for a night of uptempo dance rock originals, heavy on the synths and guitars, and a collection of the best of the ’80s pop rock and synthpop. Formed in 2006, the band, formerly known as Molten Lava, is a high-energy dance rock band that has been named Best Party Band Ever by the Northwest Arkansas Music Awards two years in a row. There’s no opening act so expect the music at 9:30 p.m. with an $8 early admission price for the 18-and-up show.

Big Silver, a Little Rock rock ‘n’ roll act with pop melodies, comprised of members of Boondogs and The Salty Dogs, who released their Tributary album on Max Recordings in December of last year, return for one of their rare live appearances at White Water Tavern. Arranged and recorded in a weekend, Tributary is the group’s fourth album and second for Max Recordings.

The night after Thanksgiving, Downtown Music rocks with a visit from Smile Empty Soul, a Los Angeles band known for their guitar-driven hard rock attack. The band’s latest release is the August 2009 album, Consciousness, which spawned the hit “Don’t Ever Leave.” Joining Smile Empty Soul will be Earshot, a five-piece known for delivering their blend of hard rock and alternative metal, New York City rock outfit Edisun and Se7en Sharp, a Jacksonville-based hard rock crew. The music starts at 7:30 p.m. with tickets $10 advance and $13 day of show.

While stand-up comedian Kevin Hart has found success in films such as Meet Dave, Superhero Movie, Fool’s Gold and his lead in Soul Plane, he remains a live comic at heart, getting his start at such comedy clubs as The Boston Comedy Club, Caroline’s, Stand-Up NY, The Laugh Factory and The Comedy Store in Los Angeles. Hart brings his Thanks for the Laugh Comedy Tour to Robinson Center Music Hall at 8 p.m., with tickets $27.40 to $45.90 with the usual Ticketmaster charges.
