Giving you the music a day early:
Born in Slaughters, Ky., a once bustling coal town now dried up, country singer/songwriter Chris Knight knows about despair, bad luck, sorrow and the rural struggle to survive. Knight will hook his emotionally devastating lyrics delivered with a ravaged, raspy voice to twangy roots rock — following in the footsteps of early Steve Earle and Nebraska-era Bruce Springsteen — during a visit to Revolution Music Room. Matt Stell & The Crashers, a central Arkansas act known for their collection of Americana, country and Southern rock tunes, will start the music at 9 p.m. with a $10 cover for the 18-and-up show.
John Lee Hooker is the late, legendary blues singer, guitar player and songwriter known for such genre-defining tunes as “Boogie Chillen’” and “Boom Boom.” John Lee Hooker Jr. toured with his father in the ’60s and ’70s before drugs, divorce and incarceration derailed his career. But with his blues career back on track, Hooker Jr. has released three albums since 2004 of modernized blues, with traces of Motown, R&B, jazz and funk, included the Grammy-nominated All Odds Against Me. Hooker Jr. will visit Sticky Fingerz. The opening act is to be announced, but expect the music at 9 p.m. with advance tickets $8 and day of show tickets $10 for the 21-and-up gig.
Florida band Evergreen Terrace will unveil their hardcore metal rhythms with melody and a punkish energy during a visit to Juanita’s. Also on the bill are Long Island hardcore act Stray From the Path, Boston hardcore act Death Before Dishonor (fresh off an European tour) and Little Rock modern rockers Wishtribe with the music starting at 8:30 p.m. Tickets for the all-ages event are $12 advance and $15 day of show.
Gringo Star, an Atlanta band fueled by fuzzed-out guitar, psychedelic rhythms and a stammering garage rock sound, will revisits Little Rock and White Water Tavern. Gringo Star’s debut album was All Y’All, a catchy collection of garage rock gems, and the quartet’s live show is where they shine, trading instruments and cranking out infectious rock. Joining the Georgia boys will be hometown crew Big Boots, the Little Rock indie rock trio who will deliver raucous original songs, oddball covers and a dose of Arkansas moxie.
4X4 Crew is celebrating the release of their newest album Urbal with a CD release party at The Village. Titled Lil’ Rock Spring Bling, the night will include performances from headliners 4X4 Crew along with Grim Muzik, NorthRock, E Dubb and Tho’d Studios, and special guest Navigator, an Oklahoma hip-hop artist. DJ Special K will be on the turntables. Sponsored by onthagrind.net, RTLD Media and Star Productions, the music starts at 9 p.m. with a $5 cover. Copies of Urbal will be available for $5 at the show as well.
