Hank III and Assjack.

Hank III and *ssjack.

Giving you the music a day early:

The grandson of the legendary Hank Williams and son of Hank William Jr., Hank Williams III broke from the family’s musical tradition, creating his own musical blend of country, punk and metal to create a hardcore rockabilly sound that attacks the senses with a raging and pummeling sonic assault. Hank III and *ssjack will unleash their special brand of country-fueled metal at Juanita’s with the gothic country music of Those Poor Bastards opening the night with their miserable, haunting take on country music. The 18-and-up gig begins at 9 p.m. with tickets $18 advance and $20 day of show. When Waylon Jennings asked “Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way?”, he could have never seen the music of Hank III coming, whooping and a hollering on a blazing Dixie death train bound straight for hell.

When Kevin Kerby + Battery released their second album Beautiful & Bright on Max Recordings earlier this year it was a roaring fist of gut-punching rock ‘n’ roll chugging along with chunky riffs and lumbering rhythms. It was meat and potatoes rock ‘n’ roll with its rugged exterior made pretty by stunning organ work and gorgeous harmonies. Months later, the slice of 21st century Arkansas rock ‘n’ roll is still a roaring work of art, and the band visits White Water Tavern on a bill wih San Antokyo.

Here’s the metal version of Hank Williams III with Hank III & *ssjack presenting “Life of Sin”:
