Star & Micey.
Giving you the music a day early:
The Memphis group Star & Micey crank out sparkly slices of self-described soulful folk pop: shimmering guitar rhythms with heart-on-the-sleeves lyrics and infectious, playful pop melodies … complete with handclaps on “So Much Pain.” The second band on the newly reactivated Ardent Music label, the band visits Vino’s to deliver a preview of their self-titled, debut album out in October.
Jeff Coleman sans The Feeders pulls the cord on his country-fried rock ‘n’ roll to pull a shift as a piano man at The Afterthought, complete with a wealth of musical knowledge for just about any request and snappy piano bar chitchat. There’s no cover for a mellow night of piano playing that begins at 8 p.m.
So what’s the central message of Confide’s “I Never Saw This Coming” and “Vultures Among the Dead”? The band is definitely angry — hence the blaring, skull-jarring rhythms and screamo, tiger-roaring vocals — but the lyrics are an adrenalized message about loving the Lord. The Los Angeles five piece has recently re-released their Science Records debut Shout The Truth, adding three bonus tracks, and are taking their aggressive allegiance to Jesus on the road with The Thriller Tour, including a stop at The Village with the pummeling Christian screamo of Agraceful, the Southern-tinged metalcore of Memphis May Fire, the intense screamo of This Romantic Tragedy and the hardcore metal of Star City’s Kingdom Under Siege. The doors open at 6:30 p.m. with the music starting at 7 p.m. General admission tickets are $10 advance and $14 at the door.
The North Little Rock indie rock collective known as Bear Colony is preparing for the release of their second album, a follow-up to the electronica-flavored indie rock of their debut, We Came Here To Die, including the swirling electronica landscape of “Hospital Rooms Aren’t For Lovers.” Joining the band for a show at Juanita’s are Cincinnati indie rockers All the Day Holiday with their ambient, atmospheric rock and Little Rock’s Sam Walker with his full band, indie folk. The 18-and-up show gets going at 9 p.m. with a $7 cover charge.
